Bankability is more than a strong resource or a competitive tariff. It is the combination of dependable project fundamentals and an allocation of risks that debt and equity providers can evaluate and price.
Start with a robust technical base
Lenders need confidence that generation forecasts are supported by appropriate resource data, independent energy-yield analysis and technically credible plant design. Grid-connection requirements, environmental authorisations, site control and implementation planning are part of the same assessment. Development assumptions should be traceable, current and capable of independent verification.
Make the revenue case investable
A power purchase agreement is only as strong as its key terms and counterparties. Pricing, tenor, energy volumes, dispatch arrangements, curtailment treatment and termination rights all shape expected cash flow. Offtaker credit, payment security and applicable market rules can materially change the financing structure.
Allocate construction and operating risk
Construction completion, interface risk, equipment performance, procurement logistics and schedule delay need clear ownership. An executable EPC strategy, suitable guarantees, realistic contingencies and an operations model are generally as important as headline project economics.
Bring the disciplines together
Development milestones, contract documents, the financial model and independent diligence should tell a coherent story. An investment-ready project is one where remaining risks are understood, responsibilities are explicit and the path to financial close can be assessed with confidence.
